Pack 107 Trip to the Rock Gym

Tonight, the Cub Scouts of Pack 107 had a trip to the Central Rock Gym in Worcester. We started the night by listening to the rules and watching a demonstration of how to climb up and come back down safely. Once the Scouts learned the safety rules, they got geared up and ready to climb. Taking turns with certified belayers, the Scouts were off to the top! Hard work, determination, and a little bit of sweat was all it took. All the Scouts did their best and had fun doing it!

Thank you to the staff of the Central Rock Gym for a great evening of climbing!

Webelos Visit the Westborough Fire Station

This past weekend, on November 24th, the Webelos Scouts of Dens 6 & 7 took a field trip to the Westborough Fire Station. While visiting with a special guest- Firefighter Paramedic Jerry, the Webelos worked on their First Responder Adventure. They practiced CPR and various first aid techniques for scratches, burns, insect bites, nosebleeds, and frostbite. The Scouts learned what first aid to do in an emergency for serious bleeding, cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, stroke, choking, and poisoning. The Webelos also created and practiced an emergency readiness plan. After all that work, they deserved a little play! The Scouts got to tour the Westborough Fire Department and look at the various vehicles that they have- trucks, boats, motorcycles, and ambulances! The Scouts had a great time!

A special THANK YOU to the Westborough Fire Station and Firefighter Paramedic Jerry for this fantastic learning opportunity!

Pack 107 Thanksgiving Holiday Hike and Geocachat Purgatory Chasm

20181125_13125320181125_143738Today, the cubscouts of Pack 107 and their families  took some time out of their Thanksgiving holiday to go on a pack hike, and embark on a geocaching adventure at Purgatory Chasm State Reservation.

Before starting the hike, the cubscouts recited The Outdoor Code, and the Leave No Trace Principles. The cubscouts wanted to leave the hiking trail better than how they found it, so they also set out to pick up any trash they saw along the way.

The weather warmed up for a comfortable fall hike, and the rain let up so we were able to stay dry.

The cubscouts worked in pairs  using the buddy system and, each team took turns to navigate and lead the group in finding the geocache.

After all the rain we had, the waterfall at Little Purgatory was roaring, and the group enjoyed a scenic snack break near by.

At the end of the hike, the cubscouts enjoyed some bonding time at the nearby playgroup before ending the afternoon with some hot cocoa, and smores by the fire!

Pack 107 Experiences a Night Journey at the Ecotarium

Pack 107 enjoyed a busy and fun-filled overnight experience at the Ecotarium, in Worcester this past weekend. This was also a  celebration of the pack’s popcorn fundraising efforts.

The cubscouts experienced a night of crimes, codes, and clues as they were presented with a feline forensics mystery to solve. They used logic, careful observation, fingerprinting evidence, DNA analysis, and decoding encryption to solve the case.

20181110_214943The night ended with a planetarium show called “Passport to the Universe”. It was a relaxing way to wind down the night with a soothing journey through the infinite expanse of our universe.

The pack enjoyed having the private experience of whole Ecotarium building just to our group.  A big hit was the Game Play exhibit with giant sized games such as chess, Jenga and, Connect, to name a few.  The hurricane/ wind capsule, and rock wall were also big hits.  The cubscouts and their families were able to camp out and sleep in the area of their favorite exhibits.

On Sunday morning, we had an early wake up to breakfast, free play of the whole museum, and then an outdoor wildlife tour to cap off the overnight experience. On the wildlife tour, we got to see bald eagles, red fix, owls, red tailed hawk, skunks and a porcupines.

The Ecotarium staff were so knowledgeable, helpful, entertaining, and friendly. They made the overnight adventure an unforgettable experience. A big cubscout thank you to the Ecotarium and their Night Journey staff!
