On Friday September 13, 2019,  Pack 107 had their first pack meeting since the beginning of summer, and it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and to meet new ones. On the Saturday prior, Pack 107 hosted a Water Bottle Launching event  at Mill Villages Park. There,  our cub scouts met new scout friends and it was wonder to see those new friends join Pack 107.

The pack meeting  opened with the Color Guard ceremony performed by our pack den leaders. Tabitha Lefrancois, our cub master, introduced our pack committee members to the new cub scouts and to all families, followed by an ice breaker moment where each den circled up for scout introductions and games.

 

 

The awards presentations followed with the newly adopted tradition of the neckerchief presentation for the cub scouts who missed advancement ceremony in June. Committee members who missed advancement ceremony  received  their service pins. Congratulations to John and Tiffany Bubriski on their one year pin, and to Cindy Fong on her two year pin.

Cub scouts who went to scout summer camp at Treasure Valley Scout Reservation Camp were recognized and awards a summer camp badge.

Cubscouts who earned hiking miles over the summer were recognized with awards as well.

During the summer, our pack attended the CMASS rocket launching event in Acton to commemorate the 50th year anniversary of the moon landing. There was an award given to the rocket that landed closed to the event moon flag. A big congratulations to our Tiger cub Tennyson for landing his rocket only 1 meter from the flag!

Our cubscsout learned about our popcorn selling season which is the main fundraising to fund our pack’s year activities, awards and operating costs. Cub scouts who sell $500 or more can earn a free overnight experience at The Mystic Aquarium! The top seller for this year’s pre- kick off is our AOL scout, Nick who sold over $800 in product already!

Our highest selling returning scout, Steven, had the honor of demonstrating the etiquette of popcorn sales. He also got to throw a cream pie into the face of our cub master, Tabitha. The winner for this popcorn selling season will have the honor to throw the pie next.

The cub scouts enjoyed a stem session with a contest to see which den could come up with the tallest free standing structure using marshmallows and dry spaghetti. The honors go to the Webelos!

On Saturday 9/14/2019, our Arrow of Light scouts worked hard at their Norcross park clean up, as part of our pack’s commitment in adopting the park.

On Sunday, our cub scouts went on a popcorn blitz where seasoned scout assisted and mentored new scouts on how to sell popcorn for our fundraising effort.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What a great day it turned out for the Cub Scout Pack 107 Water Rocket Launch Event today! The remnants of Hurricane Dorian came and went, leaving us with great weather! This was the first event of Pack 107’s scout calendar year, and it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces return, and to meet so many new faces from the Grafton community who came to participate this this event! Everyone had a blast designing their own 2L soda bottle rocket, and experimenting with different water to air ratio with each launch to see how they could improve their launch height. There were also fun game stations set up so everyone stayed busy during the whole event. Already, the scouts and their new friends were learning STEM without even knowing it, and having so much fun in the process! Thank you to all the leaders, volunteers, and participants for coming out to make this event a great success!

A special thanks goes out to our cub scout dad, Chris Nichols, who went above and beyond, to repair an unstable park bench at the Mill Villages Park. The is taking our cub scout community service commitment to a whole other level!!

This past weekend on June 22nd, Pack 107 held it’s annual Advancement Ceremony & Camp-Out to end the 2018-2019 Scouting year. This was a time for all of our families to come together and celebrate all of the hard work our Scouts and their families have put in this year.

This year, we started a new advancement tradition, handing down neckerchiefs from rank to rank, building on the bond within our Scouting family. Additionally, all Scouts received new neckerchief slides- a green woggle. The green color chosen to represent the town of Grafton, where our Pack has made its roots for over forty years.

After recognizing the Scouts and their families for all of their hard work, we also recognized our leaders for all the dedication they put in to making this Pack run. They were awarded service stars, indicating the number of years they have been a leader with Pack 107. Thank you for all that you do for Pack 107 and for our Scouts!

 This year, we also said goodbye to one of our leaders. Erik wears many hats in the Scouting community and decided that this year would be his last with Pack 107 to be able to dedicate more time to the other units he serves, as well as his district position. He was presented a gift- a plague thanking him for his years of service and dedication to our Pack and to our Scouts.

Following the ceremony, Scouts played some Ga-Ga ball while dinner was grilling. Reverend Dr. Barbara from the Congregational Church was kind enough to come by and say a blessing before our meal. After dinner, Scouts played more Ga-Ga ball and other games. One of our Scout parents even brought a drone to take some pretty awesome shots of the Scouts playing.

We ended the evening with a campfire, beginning with the introduction of campfire ashes from past year’s campfires. We made some s’mores and had an entertaining evening of skits, songs, and stories put on by various dens, leaders, and Scouts BSA Troop 2019. We ended the campfire with a flag retirement ceremony and Scout Vespers.

Yesterday, Cubscout Pack 107 had their last pack meeting of the school year and scouting year before Advancement on June 22, 2019.

The Lions did a great job leading us in the pack meeting by performing the Flag Ceremony.

We reviewed all the activities and achievements made in month leading to the end of the scouting year. The Lions enjoyed a trip to the Ecotarium May 4th, using the Den Dollars that they earned.

On May 17-19, our pack spent the weekend  camping at Treasure Valley Scout Reservation, and performing community services at the Beaver Day event.  Our cubscouts and their family hiked 4 miles around the grounds picking up trash, and learning about the Outdoor Code, and the Leave No Trace Principles.

On May 25th, the pack held it’s Friends of Scouting fundraising car wash. With the support of our Grafton community, the pack successful raised funds to donate $300 to Friends of Scouting.

The Lions performed community service at Norcross park that same afternoon, by doing a park grounds clean up! It’s wonderful to be young and have so much energy!!

On Memorial Day Monday, May 27th, Pack 107 joined other scouts, veterans, and government officials in the Grafton Memorial Day Parade. The cubscouts learn  the true meaning of Memorial Day. They learn that we dedicate this day to remember all the fallen military service men and women who made the biggest sacrifice while protecting our country and our freedom.

On June 1st, the pack had their Fishing Derby on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. Congratulations to Brody for catching the largest fish, Kai for catching the smallest fish, and Kaleb for catching the most fish!

Awards were presented to the cubscouts who finished requirements and adventures in the last month.

Congratulations go out to Steven  for earning his hiking stick for hiking over acumulated 20 miles. Congratulations also go out to Kaleb for hitting his 50 mile mark!!

Congratulations go out to Lucas and Javier for earning their Whittling Chip.

Congratulations to this group of cubscouts who earned their Cyberchip Award.

A special award was presented to a committee member, who was nominated by his/her peers, who demonstrated that he/she added a “spark” to scouting and to the pack. This year the Spark Plug Award goes to Cindy Fong , the PR Chair for the pack, for her work in making the pack’s presence known to the community via Facebook and the pack’s website.

Our Cubmaster, Tabitha explained that there were 3 awards that can be earned over the summer months. The Summer Time Pack Award can be earned if the pack has pack events scheduled in the Months of June, July and August.A Cub Scout Summertime Activity Pin can be earned if a cubscout participates in one activity in each of the months of June/July/August. The third award is the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award, which can be earned if your cubscout attends summer camp and do other rank specific activities.

In June,  we have a Pack Norcross Park clean up June 9, Advancement and campout on June 22/23.

In July, we have another pack Norcross Park clean up July 7th,  CMASS rocket launch event in Acton on July 20th. The pack will provide rockets to the cubscouts who sign up to participate, and we will go as a pack event. More details to come. Stay tuned!

Our pack will have a display at the Grafton Fun in the Sun event July 21st. Summer camp at TVSR is the week of July 22-26th.  More events are in the works for end of July and the month of August. Stay tuned!!

Following the awards, the cubscout were given an egg drop challenge. Each den had to come up with a design using a balloon, tissue paper, rubber band and a paper bag, that would prevent their egg from breaking after it gets dropped. It was fun to see all the creative designs the different dens came up with. However, none of the eggs survived. It will be fun to revisit this challenge after the cunscout have time over the summer to brainstorm some new designs.

The pack meeting ended with a birthday cheer to those having birthdays during the months of June/ July/August. We also had shout out to Tony Frederico, our Committee Chairperson, whose birthday was yesterday as well.

Today, the Cub Scouts of Pack 107 had a fishing derby. Scouts competed for 2.5 hours to earn the titles of “most fish”, “biggest fish”, and “smallest fish”. The day started a little slow, but soon enough the fish started to nibble, and the competition was on!

Nearing the end of the derby time, we had two Scouts tied for first place for “most fish”. We went into a 25 minute overtime until another fish was caught!

Congratulations to Kai for winning “smallest fish”, measuring in at 4 inches.

Congratulations to Brody for winning “biggest fish”, measuring in at 9 inches.

Congratulations to Kaleb for winning “most fish”, with a catch count of 4.

Everyone tried their best and had a good time. In total, 12 fish were caught and released.
