Halloween Fun at the Pack 107 Pack Meeting

With Halloween only 2 days prior, Pack 107 decided to extend the  Halloween celebration into the pack meeting last night. The cubscouts and some of their parents came dressed as superheroes, as favourite game or movie characters, and as ghouls and goblins. The cubscouts were also invited to bring a friend for the event. The evening started off with games of Halloween Duck Duck Goose before the meeting commenced with the Bear Den leading us off with the Color Guard Ceremony.

It was a busy month in October, and it was wonderful to have 5 cubscouts receive their Bobcat Award during their Bobcat Ceremony. Congratulations to Matthew, Ray, Jasmine, Liam and Abhiran.

We had the formal introduction to one of our assistant cubmasters, Mr.  Erik Coldwell, who also wears many hats in scouting, including, roles in our pack, in Boy Scout Troop 107,  in Adventure Scouts, and at the Council level.

Our pack’s Den Chief, Nikolas, received his Den Chief Badge. As a Den Chief, Nikolas will serve as the activities assistant for any cub scout or Webelos scout dens.

Many awards were presented to cub scouts for achievement obtained in the month of October. In particular, we had one adult leader who put in many hours of her time in leadership training and earned her “Trained” patch award. Congratulations Tiffany Bubriski, who is a den leader for the girl’s Tiger Den.

Mr. Coldwell, as role of District representative, presented our pack with the Summer Time Pack Award, for being active with scouting activities throughout the summer months.

Our assistant cubmaster, Tabitha Lefrancois, announced that next weekend 11/10/2018-11/11/2018, the pack will be having an overnight experience at the Ecotarium as part of the popcorn sales award. On the Sunday of the Thanksgiving weekend 11/25/2018, we will have a hike at Purgatory Chasm, along with a possible geocache activity.

Our Bear Den Leader, Clay McDonald, arrived ready for rock climbing, and to announce that our pack will be hosting a rock climbing trip to Central Rock Gym On December 1st.

As the meeting’s closing thoughts, our cubmaster, Mr. Shawn Tidd, spoke about the second point of the Scout Law: Loyalty. He described loyalty as a pair of magnets.   A scout is true to his family, friends, fellow scouts, Scout leaders, school, and country. You stick by through thick or thin, in good time and in times of need.

The Arrow of Lights Cubscouts of Grafton Pack 107 care for Norcross Park.

Today, the  cubscouts and families of the Arrow of Light Dens of Pack 107, spent the afternoon raking a lot of leaves and picking up garbage off the grounds of Norcross Park, on North Street. It was a chilly day, but rain-free! Their camaraderie and scout spirit kept them warm and created fun memories.

Since Pack 107’s adoption of Norcross Park, 2 years ago,  the Pack and its dens have taken turns doing monthly community service, during the non-snowy months. This includes picking up garbage around the playground, parking lot, and baseball field, weeding, mulching, spring and fall clean ups.

It’s  so wonderful to see these future leaders in the making, as they learn the value of caring for their community, and how their actions are making the Grafton community a better place in which to live.

Pack Hike @ Mount Monadnock

Today the Cub Scouts of Pack 107 took on our most challenging hike to date- conquering Mount Monadnock in Jaffrey, NH. We hiked up the Old Toll Road Trail to the Halfway House Site and then to White Arrow to the base of the summit. The Scouts had a blast climbing this mountain. “This hike is so awesome” was the phrase of the day, along with asking if we can do more hikes like this.

Unfortunately, due to a wall of rain being blown our way, we chose not to summit the mountain for everyone’s safety. We ate our lunches at the base of the summit, finishing just in time for the rain to start. We worked our way slowly back down the trail and had sunshine for the rest of the hike. We even stopped back at the Halfway House Site so that everyone could get their pictures taken in the stone chair!

5 1/2 hours and 4.2 miles later and we reached the starting gate! Great work Scouts!

It was a great day with everyone and we look forward to our next hiking adventure together!

The Tiger Cubscouts of Pack 107 Help Make a Welcome to Grafton a Beautiful Thing.

Pack 107 was approached by a member of the Grafton community and Grafton Garden Club, to help make the landscape of the Welcome to Grafton sign, located on Rte 140, entering from Shrewbury,  beautiful once again. Our Tiger dens took charge of the project under the leadership of Mr. Andy Gauthier, one of our Tiger Den leaders. What a great job they have done!  These cubscouts are learning that they can make a difference in the community they live in, even at such a young age!  Look at the before and after shots!!

Webelos Walkabout Adventure

Today the Webelos dens completed their Webelos Walkabout Adventure, hiking 3.7 miles along Harrington Trail to the summit of Mount Wachusett. Despite being wet and muddy, it was a great hike. On the way up, we stopped to admire the giant windmills and one of the lookouts. The fall scenery was absolutely beautiful. At the summit, we looked all around at the vast distances that we could see. We could even see the windmills that were once towering over us. In the distance, we were able to see Mount Monadnock- our next hiking adventure with the Pack. We even checked out the ski lift before heading back down. Overall, it was a great day to be on the trail and exploring all that nature has to offer.
